Competitions Open for Canadians: Government of Japan MEXT Scholarships

May 5, 2015 - Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has recently launched its competition for two scholarship programs available to Canadians wishing to pursue their academic interests at one of the country’s universities starting in 2016. Both scholarship programs cover full tuition, monthly allowance and a round-trip flight between Japan and Canada.

The MEXT Research Studies Scholarship Program

This scholarship is offered to graduate students and researchers for up to two years. A six month Japanese language course is offered to recipients, if required. To qualify for this award, interested candidates must be university graduates between the ages of 22 and 34. All application forms and supporting documents must be submitted to the Embassy or one of the Consulates-General of Japan in Canada by May 15, 2015.

The MEXT Undergraduate Studies Scholarship Program

This scholarship is offered to postsecondary students wishing to undertake an undergraduate degree in Japan. The scholarship can be for up to seven years, depending on the program of study. Interested candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 21. A one year Japanese language course is included in the award, if required. All application forms and supporting documents must be submitted to the Embassy or one of the Consulates-General of Japan in Canada by May 29, 2015.
