Competitions open for Canadians: Government of Japan MEXT Scholarships

April 25, 2016 - Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is offering scholarships to Canadians wishing to pursue their university studies in Japan in 2017. The scholarships cover full tuition, monthly allowance and a round-trip flight between Japan and Canada.

The MEXT Research Studies Scholarship Program

Scholarships will be awarded to graduate students and researchers for up to two years. A six month Japanese language course is offered to the recipients, if required. To qualify for this award, the candidates must be a university graduate (at the start of the scholarship) and be between the ages of 22 and 34.

All application forms and supporting documents must be submitted to the Embassy or one of the Consulates-General of Japan in Canada by May 20, 2016.

The MEXT Undergraduate Studies Scholarship Program

Scholarships will be awarded to postsecondary students wishing to undertake an undergraduate degree in Japan. The scholarship can be for up to seven years, depending on the program of study. Candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 21. A one year Japanese language course is included in the award, if required.

All application forms and supporting documents must be submitted to the Embassy or one of the Consulates-General of Japan in Canada by June 3, 2016.
